The Korean tech giant has launched a lot of smartphones in the beginning of this year. Till this date, they have launched the Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, E5 and E7. A few days back, the Samsung Galaxy A7 has been launched and this device is an another variant in the ‘A’ series from the Korean tech giant. It is even slimmer than the Apple iPhone 6. Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Alpha which brought a new concept in Samsung phones, which was the metal body is now continued in the Galaxy ‘A’ and ‘E’ series device. The Galaxy A7 is just the upgraded version of the Galaxy A3 and A5.
In this post, we are going to do the Samsung Galaxy A7 specs review and we will take on the price point of this device too, that whether the price tag is justified or not. Firstly, we should detail the specs briefly. The Galaxy A7 specs include a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display. For the smartphones, the year is said to be the year of 64-bit processors, but the Galaxy A7 doesn’t come with a 64-bit processor. The last year was not too good one as the Samsung Galaxy S5 was not able to do any magic, but we hope that this will be a good year for Samsung. The handset comes with a 13-Megapixel camera on the back and there is a 5-Megapixel camera is present on the front of this handset.
This is just an ordinary smartphone and there are no special features present in this device. If we compare it to the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact we can see that it is better but it is not a rugged smartphone. So, it is not water and dust resistant. Overall, there is no special feature present in this phone and it will help you to justify the price tag.
The hardware of this handset is not too appealing as there is nothing new in design except the thickness. The device comes with the metallic body and it is not quite stylish, it is okay just like the Samsung Galaxy A3 & A5. Apart from that, the device is sold it will surely feel solid in the hand. The front side of this device is equipped with the display and there are three buttons present underneath the screen of this handset, two of them are the capactive touch buttons while the center button is a push button.
The Samsung Galaxy A7 comes with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED Full HD display. It is the Super AMOLED display and it can break easily. No doubt, the bezels and chamfers are quite powerful, but still it is not a rugged device. If we compare the Galaxy A7 to the A3 and A5 we do not find a very huge difference apart from the resolution, camera and the processor. In India, there are many companies which are launching True Octa-Core phones at very low prices. So, we think that Samsung needs to do something different. The CES, 2015 was showcased a few days ago, and there we saw the LG G Flex 2 which was the best smartphones at CES. The G Flex 2 is different as it comes with self-healing power and much more was there in that device including Android Lollipop and 64-bit Octa-Core processors.
The Samsung Galaxy A7 is not better as compared to the LG G Flex 2 and thus, there is nothing special in the hardware. The display offers a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The pixel density of this smartphone is 401ppi. It is quite good and we think that the screen will be quite bright as well. It is 151 x 76.2 x 6.3 mm in dimensions and the display has got the light sensor and proximity sensor as well. The smartphone is also making headlines for it’s thickness as it is thinner than the Apple iPhone 6 at 6.3mm. So, it is a really slim device but the missing part is an interesting feature.
The smartphone weighs about 141g and it is pretty good for a thin smartphone like this. So, the design is okay and the metallic body will surely add some points to this device. The display is also quite good, but instead of it the company could have used the qHD display. Overall, the smartphone is just good from hardware point of view.
Camera and Operating System:
The Samsung Galaxy A7 comes with a 13-Megapixel camera which is capable of shooting 1080p HD videos at 30fps. The is a single-LED flash present on the back and it has got features like AutoFocus, Wide Selfie, Rear-cam Selfie, Beauty Face Features, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, HDR etc. The camera is pretty okay as in the price range there are some phones which offer 1080p HD video recording at 60fps. The smartphone also comes with a 5-Megapixel font-facing camera and we think that it will able to take some good seflies. This is not a camera focused phone like the Nokia Lumia 1020 Pureview, and thus, the 13-Megapixel camera is going to take normal images and you should not expect any great shakes from this camera.
The Galaxy A7 is running on the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. This device will surely receive the Android Lollipop update, but the consumers would have liked it more if it came with Android Lollipop. At CES, 2015 we saw many Android 5 running smartphones, but till now no official Android Lollipop running smartphone from the Korean tech giant has been launched. The KitKat platform provides the basic stuff and there is no material design or better battery life which are some of the key features of Android Lollipop. So, overall it is a pretty okay smartphone, but Samsung needs to do much better than this.
Processor & Others:
The handset comes in two variants and thus, for processors, Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 (quad-core A53 clocked at 1.5GHz + quad-core A53 clocked at 1.0GHz) or Exynos 5430 with M7450 (quad-core A15 clocked at 1.8GHz with quad-core A7 clocked at 1.3GHz) are there along with 2GB of RAM. It is not a true Octa-Core smartphone but still it will do good when we speak about gaming and multi-tasking. The internal storage of this device is 16GB and you can expand the external storage upto 64GB via a microSD card. In 2015, we are surely going to see the end of 16GB storage options as these a days, consumers are not appreciating this storage option.
The Samsung Galaxy A7 is not the fastest smartphone out there as the 64-bit processor smartphones are there too. The device comes with additional features like Ultra Power Saving Mode, Changeable Theme (Natural, Classic, Casual, Romantic), Private Mode, Multi Screen, Quick Connect. It is 4G device and supports connectivity features like W-Fi, Bluetooth, USB port and a 3.5mm AV jack as well. The LTE model also comes with the NFC support. It also supports the HTML5 browser.
Price & Final Verdict:
The price of this device has not been announced officially yet, but according to reports it is going to price around Rs. 37,000/-(€509). So we have think that it doesn’t justify the price tag The price is similar to that of the unlocked iPhone 6 in US. The LG G Flex 2 is priced a little higher than this and that device has got much better features than this. Also, there is no Android Lollipop or 64-bit processor. Even the Asus Zenfone 2 comes with the 64-bit processor and will cost less than this device surely. The handset also comes with a non-removable 2,600mAh battery. The Micromax Yu Yureka also offers the same specs and it is priced quite low. So, the Galaxy A7 doesn’t justify the price. So, at this moment we do not find it worth buying as it has been launched a few days ago, but it will be released in February and till then, we will see many new phones in this price range. So, that was the Samsung Galaxy A7 Specs and Price Review, do let us know your thoughts via the comments about this phone.
