Nokia Lumia 820 is the device which is on the rapid fire and is currently on huge demand.Even Lumia 920 was not so much popular among the users than this device.Nokia has launched this Windows Phone 8 running flagship phone in India a couple of months ago and a big thanks to Nokia India for sending out the device to us for Review Purpose. We have already unboxed the Lumia 820 and have mentioned the hands on impression of this device in the post.Today we are going to discuss about the positive and negative aspects of the Nokia Lumia 820.So let’s start the Nokia Lumia 820 Review.

What’s in the box:

  • Nokia Lumia 820
  • Head Phones
  • Warranty Cards
  • User Manuals
  • Charger
  • USB Cable

 Design, Display, Messaging and Hardware:

Nokia has launched the Lumia 820 with the Windows Phone 8 but also with a good OS what the customers of this generation wants is a device with good specifications and has good design.Nokia has made the design quite solid and the build is quite good. However from the past generations the device of the Lumia 820 is kept like that of the Lumia 800 and other Lumia devices.Along with that keeping the design same the color combinations being provided by Nokia is good, however the backpanel makes the phone very cheap and along with that it was very difficult for us to remove the backpanel and in the video you can see that easily.

Nokia Lumia 820 has a 4.3 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors and has a resolution of 480 X 800 pixels with 217 ppi pixel density. For the dimension of this device it has 123.8 x 68.5 x 9.9 mm which is a bit thin but compared to it there are other thin  device that can be found in this range. The Nokia Lumia 820 weighs just 160g and it feels very light in the hands. The display of this device is good and the texts are crisp. With the new Windows Phone 8 the hardware performance is also enhanced.

Nokia has done a great job with the messaging for this device.Today whatever you do in the phone you need to use the keyboard of this device and in that case you need to type very fast in order to get to the results. What we found is that the keyboard is quite spacious and in the typing test we have one or two time wrongly typed something, other wise you will be glad to see the performance of its portrait and landscape style keyboards and is becomes easy to type on a phone with that large screen.Nokia has added the touch buttons for it which is quite good and gives the premium feeling. The brightness of the device can be adjusted easily, however the display is quite bright.

Operating System and Connectivity Features:

Nokia Lumia 820 runs on Windows Phone 8 Operating System, the latest OS from Microsoft.Along with new features added to the OS the version was quite stable on the phone and Nokia has also added some features to this OS.However if we talk on the software basis then there are other companies who have highly focused and has brought new ways to make the smartphone more friendly but in case of the Lumia 820 no such sort of software improvement can be seen in the device.Since the Windows Phone 8 was able in performing the multitasking and hence the OS improved the engagement with the users and was helpful and time saving. In the the connectivity you are getting Wi-Fi,NFC,Bluetooth and USB port for charging and data syncing. The performance of the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth was good, however we didn’t tested the NFC so we can’t comment on it.It is a single micro-sim device and there were 0 drop calls and no problem in the Internet Connectivity.

Most of the you may be having the question that whether the Nokia Lumia 820 will have the next version of Windows Phone or not.As far as the news are there, currently Microsoft is preparing the next version of the OS and will call the update for the Windows Phone as the Windows Blue update and the OS version will become 8.1 and we hope that like Lumia 800,the company will not make the mistake and will surely continue the update  streak for the Nokia Lumia 820 and other Lumia devices.

Camera and Processors:

Nokia which is well know for its on-board cameras have done quite well with the Nokia Lumia 820 also. They have provided 8 megapixel auto-focus camera on the back with Carl Zeiss optics. The camera is capable of taking good images and also with that it can record HD videos in 1080p HD and along with the quality for it what we liked is the sound recording system in the video. The sound was crystal clear with Noise reduction.Nokia has also made the dual LED flash in order to add more depth to your images and videos.Video Stabilization was also there for this camera and you can record videos @ 30fps which is quite good and is available in all the phones these days.On the front Nokia provided a VGA camera for video calls and it was quite good in the performance and we tried a couple of video calls using our 3G Micro SIM and it was great and no lag in the camera.

Nokia Lumia 820 packs Dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait proccesor which was good enough and along with that Nokia provided 1GB RAM to this device. But the device which is ranged in this price list must have a quad core processor.Anyway the performance of the processor was quite good and we played the Temple Run on it and the game was working good, however it was difficult to set our hands while providing directions but after a practice of few hours the game was working like a charm and so much fluid. Now the Winodws Phone doesn’t have that much apps for it in the marketplace and some of the apps were paid,so we were not able to use those premium apps on this device. It has Adreno 225 as its GPU and it works well. For multitasking it was good.

Nokia has added great apps like Nokia Here, Panorama mode  and added some of their own layer in the camera option.Nokia Lumia 820 has 8GB on-board storage and can be increased to 32GB using Micro-SD card. With that much good camera and quite good build the phone gives a premium feel by staying in your hands and with changeable back covers it will add to your glamour. Also the design has a lot of appeal but the plastic cover may make you feel a little cheap about this phone and it is very difficult o take out the back cover.

Nokia Lumia 820 is a very good device in a range like this and with a different OS it will distinguish you between other consumers. But with a little less amount of apps present for the Windows Phone 8 in the marketplace it may be a bit problematic but unless no lag is there in the device and is quite well built and can be comfortably handled and with that you can keep your hopes on that the Windows Blue update will also be provided for this device. The price of the device is around Rs. 22,000 and in this range it packs great features and design.
