A few weeks ago, Motorola launched a new phone in their ‘X’ lineup and they introduced two smartphones this year in the ‘X’ lineup. The Motorola Moto X Play and Moto X Pure are the two smartphones which were launched. Yesterday, Motorola India held a press conference to launch the new Motorola Moto X Play and we have already done the hands on and unboxing of this device. Anyway, the Motorola Moto X Play is coming with a lot of good features and we can expect a lot of good shakes from this smartphone as well.
The Moto X Play is coming with a very cool design first of all and it is very good to feel in the hands. The design is the first thing which we see in any phone at the first sight. The screen is totally improved from the edges and it looks quite good. Moto X Play is coming with a 5.5-inch Full HD display, which provides a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, but the phone is coming with a pixel density of 403ppi. The pixel density increased this time as compared to the last gen of Moto X.
The Moto X Play is coming with a screen to body ratio of 74.4%. The handset is made of plastic from the back side but it feels good in the hand and it is going to give you the premium feeling, which is not bad at all. The handset is not coming with 2K display, but you have to chec out it’s price too. It is expected to be launched above Rs. 25,000, but Motorola India launched this product for 18,449 which is quite good. Though, the viewing angles of this phone are satisfactory. On the front of this device, you are going to ind the display, above it there is a 5-Megapixel camera and an ear piece is also there. Underneath this display, you are going to fnd the speakers and the buttons are equipped within the screen.
On the top of the Moto X Play, you are going to find a SIM card tray and in this tray you can add upto two SIMs. It is a dual-SIM device and also there is a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the left hand side of this device there is nothing and on the right hand side of this phone there is a power button present along with the volume rockers. At the bottom end of this device you are going to receive the micro USB charger which can be used for data syncing and charging.
On the back of the Motorola Moto X Play you are going to find a 21-Megapixel camera sensor which is equipped with dual LED flash and then, there is you cross check patter all over the back panel which looks quite good. It is capable of recording Full 1080p HD videos at 30fps, but it is not recording videos in 4K, which is a disappointment because OnePlus One was able to do that which was priced a little above it intially. The camera looks decent, but we have to check in all circumstance, so stay tuned for our Moto X Play Full Review.
The cameras are coming with a lot of modes and features. The video recording mode is not coming with the Live HDR feature, which is again a con about this product, The Moto X Play’s front camera is also good and you can see the front facing camera in the action. The camera is quite good, but we have to check this device out in other conditions too.
Anyway, you are not going to find any protruding camera in this device. The camera is not capable of recording slow motion and fast motion videos. In the image above, you can witness the rear facing camera in action the mode is selcted to none and also, we are not using any kind of filters at this moment. This is a 21-Megapixel camera and we should expect a lot from this camera, but you will find more about the camera in our Moto X Play Review.
The camera of this device may have some lagging part, but the design of this back panel is quite good. The finish of this product is quite good and the display is quite bigger as compared to the bezels, which again looks quite good. It is also Water repellant nano-coating and it is IP52 certified which means that it is water resistant. It is not completely water resistant, but it is okay as something is better than nothing. So, it is a kind of rugged smartphone too as we have seen a lot of rugged smartphones from the company. It is also going to give a tough competition to the Lenvo Vibeshot, the company which owns Motorola too. So, they might face competition from each other.
The Moto X Play is running on Android Lollipop platform, and it is coming with Stock Android which means that you are not gong to witness any kind of user interface which is a good thing. We can expect Android Marshmallow for this device as well, but nothing is assured yet. This time you will get Material design, user guest account and some other Android Lollipop features. Also, it is running on latest version of Google’s operating system.
The Moto X Play is powered by a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 615 Octa-Core processor which is actually a combination of two quad-core processors and thus, it means that the devic is not supporting a true octa-core processor. Anyway, this processor is also good and we can find more about this processor in our gaming review. Anyway, it is supported by 2GB of RAM. The handset is also made available in two different storage models–16GB and 32GB. Both variants create difference in the price tag. The device comes with a microSD card slot and you can expand the external storage upto 128GB.
The Moto X Play is 10.9mm thin and it weighs about 169g. It supports nano-SIM and also supports connectivity features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, micrUSB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Motorola Moto X Play also comes with it’s own voice assistant which is going to help you a lot. The assistant initiates when you say ‘Ok Moto’. So, this is a good feature too. Overall, in our first impressions the phone was good, but we need to spend more time with this handset. For now, watch the video below.
