Google earlier launched Google Drive that can create and edit the Office files directly and now they have created the similar feature for Gmail users. If anyone sends you email and you want to edit it and then want to forward it to someone else then the Gmail’s new Office edit feature will be the solution to your problem.
Google already has jumped into every component of our life. Now it looks like that Google is now after Microsoft’s Office suite which is ruling over the world for very long time. Google mentioned that they are going to support 15 different Office file formats and can be edited easily in Gmail and the file formats are: dot, dotx, dotm*, docm*, xlt, xltx, xltm*, xlsm*, pot, potx, potm*, pptm*, pps, ppsx, and ppsm*. Not only the file formats they are also improving the features inside their cloud based Office apps so that their users remain happy.

Google has been testing this feature for a very long time and finally the feature has been rolled out globally and you can check it now very easily by signing into your gmail and can see the files sent by your colleagues do have the edit button. We are not sure but it looks like that Google want to develop an online version of Office and wants more customers. Anyway, Microsoft is also working with DropBox for similar features, lets see what can Google do about it.
