Yu Yunique is coming with a great design and it is compact, sleek and easy to hold in hand. Also, it is quite slim. It is priced at Rs. 4,999 only and comes with a Quad-Core processor and an 8-Megapixel camera is there to satisfy your needs. So, the Yu Yunique is really an Yunique device. It supports 4G and comes with a HD display.
The handset is fingerprint magnet. There is a little bit of heating problem. Non-removable battery is there. Same design as of Yuphoria.
A few days ago, Yu Play God has held an event in Gurgaon, where the company launched it’s latest smartphone–The Yu Yunique. Well, we have received the media invite too, and received the handset directly from the event. The Yu Yunique is an exceptional smartphone due to it’s price point. A few year ago, we used to see a phone with HD display and 4G supports costing you Rs. 25,000 and now, these a days every phone manufacturing company is launching a phone under Rs. 10,000. So, Yu Play God launched it’s Yu Yunique with a price tag of Rs. 4,999/-. So, is it a good phone? Lower priced and high spec phone can be really good? How about the performance and heating issue? How’s the camera? Is it worth buying? Every question is answered in this Yu Yunique Review post.
What’s is inside the box?
Design, Display, Touchscreen and Hardware:
” Phone Will Survive in Drop test
The Yu Yunique is made up of plastic, and thus you are not going to get any metal feeling. So, in terms of holding the phone you are not going to feel a high end phone. The company need to work on different designs too and we hope that we will see a phone with Yunique design next time. No doubt, it is a good smartphone, but still the looks also matter in this race. It is quite easy to hold this phone in the hand, and also, the edges are not slippery, which makes the consumer to get a good grip and this piece of gadget is not going to bend anyway.
The Yu Yunique comes with a 4.7-inch IPS multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display, which supports a screen resolution of 1280×720 pixels, and it provides a pixel density of 312ppi and the Apple iPhone 6 provides a same screen with 326ppi of pixel density and costs 10 times than this phone. That’s absurd! Also, we are going to be honest with you, the screen is good, but it is not tremendous or outperforming and the texts are okay on this display. In the image above, you can see that how the display is going to look when you are using this phone under Sunlight. The Sunlight test was not very fruitful as the brightness level was 100% and still, the results were not very bright. It is an IPS LCD display and gives you an okay aspect ratio and the estimated percentage of the screen area from the device’s front end is 65.80%. The device is actually having an okay ppi, and the screen resolution is good. There is no phone phone present under 5,000 tag, which is coming with a HD display.
“The Design Of Phone Reminds About Yuphoria
Yes! The display can be broken but the touchscreen and the inner part will be safe. We have not done the drop test of this device, but we think that this phone is going to handle the petty amount of damage. This is a LCD display, thus, it is good for this price range one of the best, and honestly the brightness level of this phone is just okay(when under sunlight). Also, if you are familiar to Android then you know that the platform is battery sucker, so the lowest brightness level will make your battery survive more time. It doesn’t come with battery save mode which is a con of this handset.
The Yu Yunique is 134.5 x 67.5 x 8.3 mm in dimensions and this is a slim device. It stands somewhere between thick and thin, but it’s weight is low as compared to many smartphones. It weighs about 128g. The weight of this phone is also okay, and we felt it is kind of a light thing to hold in the hand or to place in the pocket. The phone feels solid in our hands. The home, multitasking and back buttons are present within the screen. The viewing angles of this phone were also good. The handset is coming with a lot of wallpapers and if you use the Grey wallpaper, then, when you tilt this phone at a particular angle you will find that the wallpaper has turned to blue color and it looks nice.
In terms of hardware, the phone is coming with an earpiece above the screen along with a 2-Megapixel camera. On the top of this device, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack. At the right hand side of this device there are your volume rockers and power button is located in between the volume rockers. At the bottom side, you are going to find a microUSB port, which can be used for data syncing and charging. There is nothing at the left hand side of this handset. The rear side comes with an 8-Megapixel camera, Yu Logo and speaker grills. This is a removable back panel, and underneath this back panel you will find a 2,000mAh non-removable battery, dual-SIM card slots and microSD card slot is there too.
The touch sensitivity of this phone was quite good, but the phone do not support any kind of gestures. The display and back panel are fingerprint magnet. The back panel gets oily and you need to clean the back panel time to time to make it look great. The back panel of this device is not attractive and not even glossy, which will give you a damped feeling, but you have to keep the price point in mind too. Overall, the phone does a good job in these segments.
OS, Messaging and Connectivity Features:
The Yu Yunique is running on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, wrapped under its proprietary user interface. The company has not split any beans regarding its future software update. It is has a 3.4.67 Kernel version which is going to be useful for the developers. Anyway, if you know the rooting process, then you can surely root the phone to help yourselves immensely with many a things.
“The OS Is Again Good, Comes With Android Lollipop.
On the software front, we did not find any kind of issue and as it is running on Android it is really good as you are going to get as many apps as you want to download from the Google Play Store. Android 5.1, Lollipop improves on the speed and simplicity of Android 5.0 and includes all new features – Photo Sphere and a completely redesigned camera app, new Gesture Typing keyboard, Google Now with all new cards, and much more.
Everything in Lollipop feels fast, fluid, and smooth. Moving between home screens and switching between apps is effortless, like turning the pages of a book. Android Lollipop improves performance throughout the system, including faster orientation changes, quicker switching between recent apps, and smoother and more consistent rendering across the system through vsync and triple buffering.
Android Lollipop has more reactive and uniform touch responses, and makes your Android device even more responsive by boosting your device’s CPU instantly when you touch the screen, and turns it down when you don’t need it to improve battery life. The clock has been totally redesigned with an all new look which includes both a digital and analog clock style. The world clock lets you check the time in different cities right from the Clock app or your lock screen. So, that is all about the Android Lollipop and now, let’s move on towards the next thing which is the connectivity feature.
The Yu Yunique is not having a big screen, so you may not have expected this device to bring luxurious typing quality to it, and it stands opposite to your expectation. Yup! it is pretty okay. If you are having small hands then will not find any trouble as it is a 4.7-inch display and it will be okay for the consumers with big hands to type in the landscape mode. So, if you are having small hands better use the portrait mode
The people after texting can’t say that they are facing any kind of finger pain issues. The keys are having good space between them and in the review video you can find a lot regarding texting. Also, we have used fast typing test and the buttons were working fine whcih means that you can use this device well in case of emergency typing.
This is a 4G only device and has connectivity features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack as well. It uses micro-SIM card and we have checked all the connectivity features, and no problems were found with the connectivity features. It supports dual-SIM stand by and with 4G speed it can download 2GB Game in few minutes. So, it is a great pro about this handset. Lenovo A2010 is also there in it’s competition, but that phone is not better than this phone. Overall, this phone was also quite good in the terms of OS and Connectivity. You can find our ratings above for this section too. It also supports OTG, which we forgot to mention above.
Camera and Processor & Performance:
The Yu Yunique Review Video is also present below, so do watch that too. It comes with an 8-Megapixl AutoFocus camera with the single LED flash and it is capable of shooting FHD videos as well. The camera is getting the Satellite Ring like design this time. Also, you have to note that it is the centralized camera, which will help you a lot. This device can shoot in a resolution of 1080p. Under 5K INR, there is smartphone available with 1080p HD video shooting capability, thus it is a big deal. The primary camera comes with a good sensor and takes image in 3264 x 2448 pixels. Also, it come with features like HDR, AF, Geo tagging, Digital Zoom, Panaroma, Touch Focus, Continuous shooting, ISO setting, Face Detection, White Balance setting, Blue filter glass and much more.
Focusing was good on this device and sometimes we faced lag in automatic exposure detection. The final textures were good, but not the best. The macro shots were okay too, also we have tested this camera in sunlight and the results were okay as sometimes we found a lot of exposure in the image and it made the image look bad. The camera performs okay in the low light condition and it doesn’t come with front flash, which means that if you are in dark then you can not take good selfie.
Anyway, moving ahead with the Yu Yunique Review, on the front of this device there is a 2-Megapixel camera present, which is quite useful as it has got 4G support, so, you can make video calls with it. On the other hand, you can use the front camera to set your hair style and see your beautiful face. Also, you can shoot videos with it. The front facing camera is good and you can see the camera samples in the image above and image below.
This time there is no flash present on the front side of this device. We have deeply tested both these cameras and the rear camera is good with some issues with Sunlight exposure and the front camera is also good. At this moment, we have got photos to share and you can find out more in the Yu Yunique Review video below.
This device is also packing a Quad-Core processor. The smartphone is using the Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 processor, which was launched earlier this year. It is a true Quad-Core processor and we have done both benchmark test and gaming review video of this smartphone. It comes with the Adreno GPU and you can check it’s score below. he Antutu scores are provided above and you can clearly see that the scores are outstanding as there are many phones which are priced above 10K and brought a score of 18000. So, in comparison to those phones, it is far better. The Quadrant score was also good and you can see the live gaming performance and quadrant score in the Yu Yunique Gaming Video Review below.
The handset is quite good for gaming. We have played games like Asphalt 8, Brother in Arms, Gun Battleship and many more. All these games worked well on this smartphone, but there was no lag during the movement. We should also keep the price tag in mind as the phone offers a lot of things under 5K INR. The GPU performance of this device was quite good.
We have also played a lot of HD videos on the smartphone, and the playback was quite good, there were no hesitating moments, and overall result was good. Multitasking was quite good and we do not think that the consumers are going to face day-to-day multitasking problems. The battery life of this device was quite good and it lasted for 10 hours and 2 minutes. In our battery test, we used Whatsapp and Games mainly. Side by side we played videos on YouTube and a few calls, texts and emails. Also, we saw a good thing, that the battery life was not decreasing uniformly. It was decreasing slowly, and that was a good sign. It comes with 1GB of RAM too.
The Yu Yunique is definetely not a bad phone, but it is not the best in the market as it will give you a good performance, and it is not lagging anywhere The multitasking was smooth and the heating issue is still there in the handset. Apart from that, we have also checked the call quality of this phone and we have found it satisfying, and the person on the other side was able to hear clearly. The internal storage of this device is 8GB, out of which you will receive only 5GB and you can expand the external storage up to 32GB via a microSD card.
The rest of the phones also support upto 32GB of expandable storage. The handset comes with a nice finish, and you can take photos in high speed burst mode too. Also, the front camera supports upto 3 beauty effects. This device is also having many other features which includes playing various video and audio formats and much more.
There are two microphones for noise reduction and the heating issue is bit of a concern as when the phone heated up badly it hanged but it revived quickly. So, if your handset is hanged then just press the power button for 10 seconds and it will automatically restart, if you are owing or want to own a smartphone like this, which comes with a non-removable battery. The handset also comes with a 2000mAh non-removable battery. The battery life was fairly good.
The Yu Yunique is a cheap price phone and the company has tried their best and they have given the best. There are a lot of pros as compared to the cons. The features of this device are exceptional and we hope that the company will work harder to bring smartphones like this. The Yu Yunique is available only in Black color and it is available over at Snapdeal with a price tag of Rs. 4,999/- and if you pay Rs. 500/- more then you will get two additional back panels. We can assure you that it is the best smartphone present under 5K. This is 100% worth buying and you need not to think twice before purchasing this phone.
