Samsung Galaxy Y Review

Samsung Galaxy Y was announced a few months back and finally,we have got the device in our hands. So,Samsung Galaxy Y is a mid-range Android smart phone which has attracted a lot of people around the world but it’s very important to know for you guys, whether you should buy this device or not? You will find your answer after reading this post-Samsung Galaxy Y Review.

What’s in the Box:

  • Samsung Galaxy Y
  • Head phones
  • Battery
  • Charger
  • User Manual
  • Data Cable

Design and Build:

Samsung Galaxy Y has a 3.0-inch TFT Full-Touch Display which provides a very bright display with 262,000 color density. It is a capacitive touchscreen and underneath this screen there are three push buttons and are save, menu and back.It is 104 x 58 x 11.5mm in dimension and weighs about 97 grams. This device has a very solid built and the design is some where lagging to attract the people. It is not a very big phone,it’s quite small but is very light. This device really feels solid in our hands and if the Galaxy Y fell from your hand it’ll not break,so thumbs up to Samsung for that.Overall, the design and built quality is good.

Touch Response and Connectivity:

Samsung Galaxy Y is a touchscreen phone and the touch response of this phone is quite good, not the best but still,it’s not of lagging quality. It is a 3G device and has connectivity features like Bluetooth,Wi-Fi,USB port and 3.5mm AV jack as well.We have completely tested these connectivity features and found that there are no problems with them, also the call quality is quite decent and satisfying, your ear will not hear and hollow surround sound.

Camera and Multimedia:

Samsung Galaxy Y has a camera on the back and there is no front facing camera.Anyway,on the back there is a 2 Megapixel camera without flash and beside it there is the speaker grill. The camera on the back is not of good quality and we can say that it’s poor and unsatisfactory. The bad thing about this device is that it do not come with a front facing camera, even it is a3G device. The texteured back panel is made of plastic with the Samsung logo embedded on it.Anyway, Samsung Galaxy can play many types of audio and videos,it can play MP3 / WAV / MIDI / AMR  type of Music and Sound. Also,it can play H.263 / H.264 / MPEG4 / 3GP types of videos, but it cannot play HD videos on it.The speakers are of decent quality and you will be satisfied with it’s multimedia functions and capabilities.Overall, the camera is poor but still,it is a small multimedia beast.

Operating System and Processor:

Samsung Galaxy Y is running on Android Gingerbread with version of Android 2.3.5.This device is not upgradable to Android Ice Cream Sandwich which is a poor thing.Anyway, you know how Android phones work but still, there is a lot to talk about it’s processor.Samsung Galaxy Y packs a 832MHz Processor and is a better processor than Nokia N8-00 but still, the phone got hanged some time.It automatically gets turn off and again switches it self on.You can not play HD games on this device,we can say the processor is satisfactory only.

Messaging and Browser:

Samsung Galaxy Y has a small screen and it’s difficult to type on this device in portrait mode.If you turn your device to landscape mode then you can type easily.Samsung Galaxy Y browser is good but it lacks a bit on opening any website, it also supports flash player and you can watch YouTube videos at desktop mode in your cell phone.Overall, typing on this device is a little bit tough but every question has it’s answer and if you are smart you will not type but you will say and your device will type.Anyway,Swype input method is pre-installed in this device already.

Others:

Samsung Galaxy Y,in this phone ‘Y’ stands for Young and Samsung has tried to put every thing in this device to attract the Young generation towards it.Samsung Galaxy Y installs most of the apps and games from the Android Market but does not support a few ones. This device is 11.5mm thick and these a days 11.5mm thickness means a lot but it is very light which is a good point.Pinch to zoom function works very well and voice search also works well.Samsung Galaxy Y comes in only one color which is a bad thing.

Overall Result:

If we sum up all the segments, the overall result is quite impressive. The device just lacks in a few things like camera quality,no front camera etc. Anyway,Samsung Galaxy Y is priced at nearly Rs 7,000 and if you are looking for an Android smartphone with in the price range of Rs 5,000- Rs 10,000 then it is a good device to buy but still in this price range there are some better phones also. So,there you go guys that was the complete review of Samsung Galaxy Y,stay tuned for more tech updates and do not forget to check out the image gallery below.
