In the world of computer science, the data types are vary important and along with the amount of data that can be stored. Back in 2005, when YouTube was started the video count was set to 32 bit and then they never thought that it would be possible for any video to touch that amount of views since in 32 bit it can hold 2,147,483,647 view counts.
But PSY’s Gangnam created the magic and the views crossed the mark and because of the demand of the situation YouTube upgraded the view count from 32 bit to 64 bit. And in 64 bit they can store 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 view counts. Definitely they are using the integer data type however some another video can force them to change the data type from int to long int or something else.

According a post from YouTube’s Google+ Page it says:
We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), but that was before we met PSY. “Gangnam Style” has been viewed so many times we had to upgrade to a 64-bit integer (9,223,372,036,854,775,808)! Hover over the counter in PSY’s video to see a little math magic and stay tuned for bigger and bigger numbers on YouTube. YouTube
So in this way YouTube has finally upgraded and now they are waiting for that next video that will break PSY’s record and will also break their 64 bit integer storage capacity. Even if you go to the video and shuffle your mouse of the views count then it will animate it and its worth tying out. What do you think about it?
