Today, a new thing is finalized, yes, ETSI has finalized the new SIM card design and has made it 40% smaller, the new SIM cards are going to be thinner too.ETSI has revealed that at the 55th meeting which was held on 31 May and 1 June 2012 in Osaka, Japan, the ETSI’s Smart Card Platform Technical Committee has agreed a new form factor for the UICC and UICC is commonly known as the SIM card.Well, this is a big win for Apple as firstly, other companies like RIM, Nokia and LG  were against the new SIM-design, but later on they have provided their own separate designs and Apple has seen them and has paired them, after doing that it’s been finalized.

The new SIM card format is the fourth form factor (4FF) and it is 40% smaller than the current microSIM cards and the new 4FF SIM cards are going to world’s shortest and slimmest SIM cards, but for that the companies have to do a lot of work as they have to introduce a new smaller and thinner SIM card slot in their upcoming phones. The new SIM card is going to be 12.3mm wide, 8.8mm high and 0.67mm thick. This new SIM card will not have any separate functionality, it will deliver the same functions offered by the microSIM cards.

The SIM cards are one of the most needed things of our day to day life as without it we can’t call and message, also SIM cards provides a lot of functions as well.Anyway, this time Apple has won, but the Cupertino giant itself need some hard work to do as the iPhone 6 will surely be using the new SIM card. For now, that’s all, if you want get more information, just hit the source link mentioned below.
